Xcode 11 support

Post by witherspoon » Wed Mar 11, 2020 1:21 pm

Is there any new update on when Xcode 11 will be supported in the Community Edition? Last I noticed it would be early this year. Thanks

Hi witherspoon,

Sorry about this, but things changed since the last time I posted about Xcode 11 back in October. It was decided that PGI 19.10 would be the last release supporting MacOSX. There will be no additional releases on Mac so no support for Xcode 11.

Very sorry to hear this, but thanks for your quick reply. Will PGI 19.10 continue to be available for macOSX? Cheers

The Community Edition license is for a year (so will expire in Nov 2020), though if you have a Professional License, then the license is perpetual.

So does that mean my existing Mac version of Community Edition 19.10 will stop functioning sometime in Nov 2020? I won't be able to use it after that date?

My understanding is that the Community Edition was the only PGI compiler that runs natively on the Mac, which is a lot more convenient (for me anyway) than running a compiler inside a linux VM. Is there any future for native PGI compilers on Macs?

By the way, I do have a paid version of pgf77 from 2011 still running on an old linux box, but I would really like to retire that box someday due to its age and consolidate everything on my Mac.

Thanks
