After installing the 9.0-3 trial version of the PGI workstation 64-bit linux on my 64-bit Centos system, I can execute successfully pgCC, pgf95, pghpf but cannot execute successfully pgcc and pgf77 because of the license manager problem. The error messages are as follows:

pgcc:
pgi-cc-lin64: LICENSE MAMAGE PROBLEM: Failed to checkout license.

pgf77:
pgi-f77-lin64: LICENSE MAMAGE PROBLEM: Failed to checkout license.

I would like to use the pgicc and pgifortran to compile example programs of PGI Accelerator Programming Model as showed in the following page:

http://www.pgroup.com/lit/articles/insider/v1n1a1.htm

Is there any way to get out of this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Viet,

Odd. If one fails, they should all fail.

Can you post the full error message? This may help in determining the issue.

Thanks,
Mat

[viet@localhost ~]$

As showed in the above masseges, the pgcc and pgf77 is not executed successfully due to the license manager problem.

When using pgcc and pgfortran to build the pgi_accelerator_examples, the error messages are as below:

[viet@localhost pgi_accelerator_examples]$ ls
c1.c c2.c c3.c f1.f90 f2.f90 f3.f90 makefile
[viet@localhost pgi_accelerator_examples]$ pgcc -o c1.exe c1.c -ta=nvidia -Minfo
pgi-cc-lin64: LICENSE MANAGER PROBLEM: Failed to checkout license
[viet@localhost pgi_accelerator_examples]$ pgfortran -o f1.exe f1.f90 -ta=nvidia -Minfo
pgi-f95-lin64: LICENSE MANAGER PROBLEM: Failed to checkout license
[viet@localhost pgi_accelerator_examples]$

Is It possible to use the 9.0-3 trial version of the 64-bit linux PGI workstation to run example programs of PGI Accelerator?
Thanks in advance,
Viet

Hi Viet,

If you try compiling with existing files, my guess is that all the drivers will fail due the license manager issue. It just happens that some are checking if the file exists before checking the license.

I think you're on step 4 in Chapter 4 of the PGI Linux Installation Guide (http://www.pgroup.com/doc/pgiwsinstall.pdf), in which case, this error is expected since you haven't started the license manager yet. Details on starting the license manager are in step 6.

Yes. The trial license is valid for the Accelerator compiler and, in 9.0-4, the CUDA Fortran Beta. However, your binaries will time out at the end of the trial period.

Thanks,
Mat

Dear Mat,

As shown in the previous message, I compiled with nonexisting files x.f, x.c, and passed the license manager with pgCC, pgf95, pghpf and was not able to pass the license manager with pgcc and pgf77.
The guideline on step 6 is as follows:

6. Start the License Manager daemon.
Important
If you are evaluating PGI software with trial keys, you do not need to perform this step and can proceed to Step 7.」

I am using a trial license. Do I have to start the license manager?
Thanks,
Viet
